The Nissan Altima Takes on the Competition

Here at Vaden Nissan of Hinesville, we're happy to recommend any of our high-quality Nissan models to our Georgia neighbors and friends. With a huge variety of body styles and capabilities, there's a quirky, conservative, rugged, or sophisticated Nissan model to suit all different personality types.

Take our Nissan Altima, mid-sized sedan, for example. A four-door, five-passenger model, the Altima is perfect for any number of drivers, from small families to young professionals. It has all the quality, reliability, and features we've come to expect from Nissan.

We know our Altima is a great sedan, loaded with amenities, and with a cavernous amount of trunk and passenger space. But, we also know it may not be the only sedan on your radar. That's why we've researched the Nissan Altima, pitting it against several competing models from other car companies.

As you can see from our research, with few exceptions, the Nissan Altima has more engine power in its standard equipment than any other available sedan. Drivers have to move up trim levels or ask for more-expensive, optional engines to get the same performance they get standard in an Altima.

The Altima is also the clear winner, across the board, when it comes to fuel economy. Read on to see a by-the-numbers, side-by-side comparison of the ways our Nissan Altima beats the competition.

The Nissan Altima vs. the Honda Accord

Although similar in size for both passenger and cargo space, the Nissan Altima actually holds a larger gas tank than the Honda Accord. Plus, it has a wider range per fill up than the Accord. In fact, the Altima is rated for 486 miles in the city or 702 miles on the highway per tank of gas, while the Honda is only rated around 464 miles city and 619 miles highway per tank of gas, all of which translates to fewer stops at the gas station for you.

The Nissan Altima vs. the Toyota Camry

Although the Nissan Altima and the Toyota Camry have near-identical measurements across all areas, the Altima comes with a better fuel economy rating and more power. The Altima averages 27 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway, compared to the Camry's average 24 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. Additionally, the Altima's base engine has more horsepower and more torque than the Camry's standard equipment.

The Nissan Altima vs. the Chevy Malibu

The Nissan sedan comes with both a more powerful engine and better fuel economy than the Chevrolet sedan. The Malibu standard engine is rated for 160 horsepower, compared to the Altima's standard power of 179 horsepower. Plus, the Altima earns around 486 miles in the city and 702 miles on the highway per tank of gas, compared to the Malibu, which gets around 351 city and 468 highway. Additionally, drivers who are shopping for a base model Malibu do not get as many tech features, including Bluetooth audio streaming, as they would in a base model Altima.

The Nissan Altima vs. the Volkswagen Passat

As with the other similarly-sized vehicles on this list, the Nissan Altima is a clear leader over the Passat when it comes to both fuel economy and engine power. In fact, the Altima averages 31 mpg combined, compared to the Volkswagen's 27 mpg combined. Plus, the Altima gets around 702 miles on the highway per tank of gas, compared to the Passat's 629 miles highway per tank. Also, the base engine for the Altima is rated at 179 horsepower, compared to 170 horsepower for the Passat.

The Nissan Altima vs. the Hyundai Sonata

Compared to the Nissan Altima, the Hyundai Sonata has a smaller backseat and less overall legroom for you and your passengers. While both have similar trunk space, elbow room, and headroom, the Altima measures overall longer than the Sonata, and that fact is evident when it comes to the passenger seating areas. Also, as with every other comparison in this category, the Altima earns a better fuel economy rating than the Hyundai.

The Nissan Altima vs. the Kia Optima

Once again, the Altima is the clear winner when it comes to fuel economy, beating out the Kia sedan with a combined rating of 31mpg, compared to a combined 28 mpg for the Optima. Additionally, the Nissan Altima maximizes its space better than the Kia. It has a larger cargo capacity in the trunk, plus more elbow room and headroom for passengers inside the car.
